- John McMahon of Lena was famous for telling Irish stories.
- There was a man living at Liscullane, Corofin, over seventy year's ago named Patsy McMahon. He was a very strong man and when ever he wanted a half sack of flour, he always carried it from Corofin, a distance of two miles. On another occasion he carried a plough over a half a mile.
