'Honest Tom Steele' the gentleman farmer from Culhane, the Civil Engineer, the Master of Arts of the University of Cambridge the staunch friend and seconder of O'Connell at the Clare Election, who was eccentric as he was upright, and as chivalrous in love as he was in true friendship, erected this rock, which bears his name, in the spot where it stands to this day.
