    Thomas Sullivan who was the parish clerk in Kilmaley was a Hedge School master and had a school at Cahermore Cross going into Cullinagh (Cúl an Each).John Hasset the tailor went to school to him.he had a school by day and by night .He was great for teaching writing and Arithmetic. Dean Malone the author of a Church History of Killaloe Diocese went to school to him.Dean Malone's father lived in the house occupied by Jack Neylon of Cahermore .His father was a rent-warmer.Thomas Sullivan used to wear a tall hat and long coat.

    Mulligan had a school at Cnoc near Crowe's bridge Inagh.(borders of Kilmaley and Inagh).A woman who went to school to him told me she was able to spell every word in Carpenter's spelling book including the Principles of Politeness.At this time poor scholars used to go home with different scholars every night.
