The Mac Mahons up to the present day carried on those trades. Murty the Nailer, grandfather of the present Blacksmith was a noted Sean.
He prided himself on being a descendant of Mac Mahon the smith, who shod the horses of one of Iretons officers.
When a party of the troops reached Clare Castle on their way to North Clare, after the siege of Limerick the horse had lost a shoe. When they reached Ennis the trooper had to return to Clare Castle as the horse had lost the other three shoes on the bad road (This road went by Doora) The smith refused to do the job for less than five shillings a shoe. As Mac Mahon was the only smith in the District he got what he asked.
