  2. There is no record of vessels been lost in the river Fergus which is accounted for by the placidness of the water and the irregular course it flows. There are two sad records of drowning in the locality. One happened in Newhall Lake bout 40 years ago. Three men attached to the ordinance survey office in Ennis used go fishing regularly in a boat in the lake. One
