  1. True Story - Caoineadh (continued)

A cousin of mine (Eileen Hannigan) was drowned at the age of three in the Colligan River near Dungarvan....

    (continued from previous page)
    (II)
De'n iongnadh liom Abha Mhór ná Abha Bhrigde
Ná an tSionnainn mhór do bháidh na mílte
Ach abhann Coiligeán a bhí ag gabhailt thar a tig againn
A sgriob tú uainn go bráth is coidhche
Eibhlín óg! agus is óg a bhí tú
Eibhlin óg! is gleo mo chroidhe tú.
These 2 verses were composed at the wake during which some youngsters were laughing and the 3 verse was -
    (III)
Ní le tinneas ná e galar
Ní leis an mbruithtíneach nó leis an casactach
Ach abhann Coiligeán do thál ort a bainne (?)
Níl aoinne dhíobh atá ag sgiotíol (?) 'sa magadh
Ná fuighid bás comh maith leat-sa.
    Eibhlín óg! na cuacha casta
Eibhlín óg! is óg a bhí tú
Eibhlín óg! is gleó mo croidhe tú

The grandmother wanted the child to be buried with her own people in Colligan but the father wished the child to be buried in Kilgobnet. Next verse reads

    (IV)
Beidh cnoc ar m'ocht igcreim im chroidhe istigh
Nuair a árdóchaidh siad uaim go Cill Gobnat
    síos tú
