  1. There is a big rock to be seen to the present day in Coill near Ardane in the Glen of Aherlow. This is the Mass Rock on which St. Benehed used to celebrate Mass at all times. It was part of his dwelling house during his lifetime. The old people say that the Saint never said Mass any place except in his own house.
One time the Saint intended building a new house or church. His old house was really his church up to this time. He first of all built a tower in the place where his church was to be. He was going to celebrate Mass in the tower the following morning so he got the big rock removed to the tower but when the morning came he found the Rock back again in its usual place so he never changed it afterwards.
