   I live here in Emly and I'm glad of it too,
   For twas here that St Ailbe to manhood first grew -
   He erected fine Churches, raised great famous schools,
   And with his disciples kept religious rules.

   If I were in Emly with Ailbe to join;
   Or its great martyred prelateTerence Albert O'Brien;
   Betwixt Saint and Martyr I'd fearlessly soar
   As the bard of old Emly in the dark days of yore.

   III
   Thirty seven Arch Bishops sat in old Emly See
   St Ailbe was first both in time and degree.
   St Ailbe was first, so Dícola was last,
   When the synod of Kells made our glory seem passed.

   IV
   In the reign of King Cormac we are told that the Danes
   Came incursive to Emly, leaving bloodreeking stains.
   Twelve hundred of them the King's Army laid low
   Near this the old Emly we had long ago.
