- A farmer had a small field where there was a moat. He kept one cow in it to graze it. He noticed that the cow used to have no milk in the morning. She had twice as much in the evening. He took that cow out of the field and put in a dry cow in her place. In the morning when he got up and went to turn in the cows to be milked. He found that the cow he took out of the moat field was dead. It was said that the cow was supplying the fairies with milk, and that they killed her when he took her away.
