- A fair is held in Cappwhite every month. There is a good attendance as shopkeepers do a good trade. The fair is held on the street. When confirming a bargain it is customary for the parties there to strike their hands together. This signifies final agreement.
In the middle of the 17th century the fair was held in Clone near Dola. On one occasion Cromwell's soldiers were passing by. They seized all the horses and cattle and since that time no fair has been held in Clone.
Many buyers used to come to the fair of Kilfenele long ago from England.

- Some years ago a fair was regularly held in Holycross. It is said that someone was killed there at every fair. Faction fighters used to arrive in bands about ten o'clock(continues on next page)
