    He won a good deal of Cross Country races.
    Jack Howard of Ballintemple in the parish of Donaskeigh was a great runner. He used to run to meet the mail across the fields and one day he fell back off a ditch into a drain and he hurt his neck and it is stiff still and he cannot bend it.
    Mick and Jack Ryan of the Racecourse Cashel were all round athletes. Jack is dead now, the Lord have mercy on his soul. They played on the Irish Rugby team in 1897. Jack bred Tipperary Tim that won the 1928 Grand National.
