  1. Tankerstown
    The townland of tankerstown is situated between the river Ara and the river Aherlow. It is not a large townland.
    The land is very low-lying and boggy and sometimes the rivers overflow their banks, the whole place becomes one sheet of water, and the children are often prevented from coming to school.
    Long ago before the rivers were confined to their banks the whole place was very marshy, but since the rivers were banked the land has become sound.
    It is not very thickly populated, and the people live by mixed-farming.
    There are two shops in the locality and a school.
