- Mr. Maguire: Landlord
Mr. Maguire was a local landlord who lived in Toureen Wood House. He was not liked by the people as he had evicted a great many of them.
He went in fear of his life, and it is said he wore a suit of mail.
It was his custom to come out early every day and one Sunday morning about 4 o.c. there were men lying in wait to kill him.
As their guns were useless to shoot him they hit him on the head and killed him.
They hid their guns (which were found a long time afterwards by a man named Peters) and went off to Kilmoyler Mass.
The dead landlord was found by his wife who because of his long absence had gone in search of him.
The leader of the men who killed Maguire was getting uneasy as suspicion had fallen on him and he was on the run.
