Over forty years ago, a great epidemic of typhoid fever broke out around here.

Over forty years ago, a great epidemic of typhoid fever broke out around here.
This fever was dreaded by all. And when anybody got it nobody was allowed near the infected house but somebody who had already recovered from it.
Anybody who gets this fever, is not out of danger for nine days.
Mr Brett, who lives in Cappagh, was walking round the hills one day, when he met a gypsy. " This gypsy told him that he was going to get a fever, but if he gave her a coin, with a cross on it, she would put the fever on a hen.
He did not give her the coin, so he got the fever afterwards.
Also about twenty five years ago, a few families in the district got diptheria which claimed many victims.
