  1. My grandfather once lived in a place called Castlelake half-way between Golden and Cashel. His mother had a spinning wheel. It used to be a great pastime combing wool on a winters night. They had the wool woven into material at the weavers. Often they took it (the wool) to Bansha mill and exchanged it for tweed.
In Castlelake road there was a fine mill about 5 storeys high for crushing oats and grinding wheat. When the foreign corn and flour came in the mill had to close down.
A little farther on there was an old distillery owned by the Mathews (Fr Mathew's ancestors)

    "The sparkling drop from Castlelake
Is sold in Golden by Mr Blake"

In the bad times the distillery was taken over by the Cashel guardians and turned into a poorhouse.
