In olden times people suffered very severe torturing from their landlords if ever a landlord wanted a farmers land when the time came for paying the rent the landlord would not accept payment the next thing he would do, he would come along with his sheriff and men and evict the unfortunate farmer. In some cases the landlords also met with some hardships when they evicted or at least refused to take the rent I will just mention a few things that happened in my district about 68 years ago Buckley had a very severe agent by the name of Bridge he refused to take the rent from a farmer by the name of Ryan he was living near the village of Ballyporeen now Ryan got into a terrible fury he made up his mind to shoot Bridge this day Ryan laid in ambush on the road leading from Loughanna to Galtee Castle it was not long until Bridge came along the road walking with lady friends when at close range Ryan firing direct at Bridge, Bridge fell as if dead on the road when Ryan saw him on the ground he was sure he had revenge but alas Bridge was not dead or even hurt because he wore a steel jacket Ryan sure of his prey and proud having Bridge shot struck of direct to America.
