  1. Brown paper is dipped in a solution of saltpetre and this is called touch. Old people used to bring, flint, steel, and touch, in their pockets and when they wanted to light their pipes or cigarettes they used to hit the flint with the steel and this used to produce a spark.
    Saltpetre is used to cure pork.
