  1. There is a "fairy fort" in Spitalands in the parish of Ardfinnan.
It is circular in shape, and it is fenced in by earth. There is three or four gaps in the fence There was an entrance hole in some part of it, but it is not known where.
At the time wheat was set in ridges this fort in Ardfinnan was ploughed up and a crop of wheat set in it, and it grew well but since then there was never a crop set on it.
It is said that if you cut a thorn bush in a fort you will feel its thorns in bed at night.
The Danes are supposed to have built them for the purpose of firing from the tops of them, and they used to live in them at times.
