- About a mile out the Mitchelstown road there is an old forge in which are made pieces of ploughs and ohter articles. In nearly every district there are thatchers. They first cut a lot of willows from the osiery. Then they split them and out them into the right length. Then they put straw on the old thatch at the same time fastening down the straw. These stick are called scallops.
