  1. St Stephens Day
    On that day it is the custom for all the big boys and girls to go hunting the wren.
    They dress up in old clothes and rags and they blacken their faces and put on a mask. They bring a mouthorgan and a melodeon and they sing and dance out side the farmer's door. The woman of the house gives them money. They bring a holly bush and they tie ribbons and bells. The song they sing is "The wren the wren, the KIng of all birds; St Stephens Day she was caught in the purge.
    Although she was little her honour is great.
    Get up good lady and give us a treat.
    Up with the kettle and down with the pram.
