  1. In olden times when people were not allowed to educate their children, the people had hedge - schools. The teachers used to come from other places, and every scholar had to pay one penny per week. My mother's Great Grandfather was a hedge - schoolmaster. He taught in a school in Priestown near Drangan. There was another school in Cloran, which the scholars used attend by night. The girls used to wear pieces around their heads.
