  1. In the parish of Killusty, in the townsland of Bannixtown, is situated a fort. It has the usual circle of heavy white - thorns around it. No one likes to cut these bushes, as it is considered unlucky to do so. In the center is a deep tunnel, supposed to be used by the Danes. It is a fact that several people were put astray, when passing through this field by night. In the late fight for independence this tunnel provided a dug - out or a hiding place from the enemy.
