About fifty years ago, the people of this country depended a lot on their own handicraft for most of their requirements. Candle making was done in many homes. This was done by melting fat in a boiler, then dipping a cord in the sheep fat, so that a certain amount would adhere to it. Then it was left to dry, when dry , it was again dipped, and so on, till the candle was a proper thickness for use.- Collector
