“Once on a time a widow and a handsome daughter lived in a house...”
(continued from previous page)the water as usual. It was dark, and she went astray, so she began to cry. At the same time she heard something fluttering over her head. "what ever you are, will you take me home to my mother"? said the girl "I will, if you marry me. I am a raven." "Begor, I will," said the girl. The raven brought her home safely and then said "I will come for you to morrow."
She laughed at the idea of a bird coming for her. The following day the raven came for her and took her away under his wing to a beautiful castle. She began to cry again for her mother. "Dont cry" said the raven, "I can be a man by day, and a raven by night, or a man by night and a raven by day." I will have the birds of the air by day." she said. After a few days he put her to turn a room of gold in the castle. She took twenty pounds and sent it to her mother. When he came back in the night as a man he missed the money. He told her a night or day she would not give in the castle until she would earn the twenty pounds. Next morning he(continues on next page)- Collector
