    Bere bread would kill you dead
    Baley bread would do no harm
    Oaten bread would purify the blood
    Wheaten bread would strengthen the arm.
    Bacon was used very seldom. Tea coloured with the red of eggs was sometimes used on a black fast day in later years.
    A feast of eggs was held on Easter Sunday as no egg at all was used during Lent.
    An old woman was once heard to say; I'm nearly gone now I only ate 11 hen eggs and a goose egg."
    About 1866 tea came in general use.
