  1. In the olden times when they had no machines for making nails, there were in each district a few men who made them. The people who made them got rod-iron and heated it. They had a special kind of hammer and every time they hit the iron it made a nail. The Ryans were the nail-makers in Borrisoleigh and were called "The Ryan Nailers." None of them remain.
