    a family named Cookes. It ceased about fifty years ago. John Ralph, a basket maker, lived in Borrisoleigh about twenty years ago. He then went to Upperchurch and is living still. Patrick Mahon is a cooper in Upper Street, Borrisoleigh. His people have been coopers for three generations. The implements he uses are:
    saw, hammer, compass, anvil, hollow knife, adze, board-axe and a draw knife. The wood which the cooper uses is called American Oak.
    Dan Fogarty owned a hotel and a stable holding forty horses. There were many shoemakers in the village. John Brophy, a native of Holy Cross settled in Borrisoleigh and became a thatcher and stone-cutter. There were blacksmiths who made iron gates, fire cranes and other
