  1. I
It's here at home in Lackamore,
I take my pen to write.
    A lover in my bosom,
    Where Mary takes her flight
It was in a flowering garden
A man of power there grew
Till I came one day to court a dame
She was a maiden from Murroe.
    II
    Do you remember the shade
    The Wood-Cock and the Pheasant
    Came fluttering through each brake
Our enemies stood on the road
But us they could not view
It was then I kissed the ruby lips
    Of my Mary from Murroe
    III
It was the eve of a funeral
At the Cross above the forge.
It was there I spied my Mary,
and she coming down the road
But oh alas our day was passed,
Her mother came in view .
And I had to quit down by the spit,
    With my Mary from Murroe.
