  1. There are two holy wells in the parish of Newport 'Tobar Geal' and Cragg Well. 'Tobar Geal' is situated two miles west of Lackamore, and two miles east of Newport, in a field adjoining the Limerick - Thurles road. Cragg well is situated in the townsland of Cragg, about three miles from Newport. Traditions tell us that 'Tobar Geal' is dedicated to St Deborah, and that her sister, St. Commat, founded Cragg Well.
There is no particular day to pay visits to 'Tobar Geal'. A person can go to the well any day of the week on any season of the year he wishes to make "rounds." By a 'round' is meant walking around the well and praying while doing. A visit consists of five "rounds", saying a decade of the Rosary at every round. When leaving the well, after making the rounds, something is usually left as an offering.
