  1. Local Cures
    Long ago people had not the patent remedies for diseases we have now. Instead people used herbs and certain flowers or vegetables as cures. Those cures, which the people used, were very good and saved much money.
    If a person have chillblains he rubbed the sore part with paraffin oil, or a piece of an onion.
    A very effective cure for chilblains was walking, barefooted, in frosty grass before breakfast, or to lather them in pickle.
    The common cure for a toothache was to cram bread-soda into the aching tooth. A warm cloth tied around the head was a good way of getting rid of a toothache.
    When the young people had warts on their hands or knees their elders told them to rub the warts with a snail for a certain length of time. (B.. seven straws?) was a more pleasant way to rid the warts. When you are going for a walk
