  1. There is a beautiful lake about half a mile from this village, and it is called the Friars lake. This lake contains about six or seven acres. The monks would go to this lake to meditate and pray because it was away from the busy city at that time.
    There is an old legend told about this lake. There is supposed to be an under ground tunnel going from the Monastery to the lake. This tunnel was made by the Monks, but it was not used as a passage. When the Danes came to Ireland the Monks made the tunnel to hide their sacred vessels as they knew the Danes would come some day and destroy the Monastery.
