  1. Mrs. Shanahan, my grandmother told me this story about Tory Hill. She often heard her father say that Tory hill was found in a lake nearby. One day a woman went to the lake and found Tory Hill, which she put on her apron. She meant to carry it to the top of Knockfierna, but the string of her apron broke. She dropped Tory Hill near Honey Pound, Croom. So ever since, it is called Tory Hill. If the woman could carry Tory Hill to the top of Knockfierna, it would be the largest mountain in ireland to-day.
