  1. In some houses a cross is hung on the thatch to prevent it from burning. In houses St Patrick's cross is placed behind the door. On Palm Sunday Palm is put up on holy pictures and isn't taken down until that day twelve months. It is also used if there was mass been said to sprinkle holy water. A ribbon is left out on St Bridgid's night and is used as a cure for a headache. Holy water is brought from St John's well in Mrs Hogan's land. Holy water is also got in [?] well near Elton. It is sprinkled on animals and is a cure for sore eyes.
