    Once upon a time there was a little boy, and his father died.

    a cow. One day there was a fair (a fair] near them. The boy went to the fair to sell the cow. Before he went, his mother told him to get the highest penny in the fair. When he arrived at the fair, a buyer asked him how much he would sell the cow for. The boy said he wanted the highest penny in the fair. The buyer got out a penny and put it on the top of a long stick, and lifted it up in the air. When he took it down he handed it to the boy and he took it. The buyer took away the cow. When the boy went home his mother thrashed him, and put him to bed.

    There was once a man who went to a wood to cut a tree. He heard a voice saying spare me, spare me He looked up and saw a fairy. The fairy said that she would give him three wishes between himself and his wife. Then the man went home and told his wife his story. When they were eating their supper, his wife said, I wish we had a feed of black puddings. The man said, I wish they will stick to your nose.
