  1. I shall next deal with this phantom spirit viz. the Earl of Desmond who keeps watch and ward over the waters of Lough Gur. When children in the neighbourhood of the lake are bold they are often threatened by their mothers that the Earl of Desmond will come to take them away if they do not behave themselves.
    The Earl of Desmond thus becomes "Boody Man" of the locality.
    Has anyone ever seen or spoken to the Lord?
    The answer is "Yes", but not within recent years. I shall now tell of his meeting with mortals on three occasions
