- (continued from previous page)that the whole party commenced to drink and after a while a whistle was passed around and each person blew the whictle in turn.When, however, a person got too drunk to blow the whistle he was "counted out" for any more drinks - i.e. he got no more drink - and it was always found that Captain Bailey was the last to be "counted out" and hence he was the last to "blow the whistle".Hence to the present day, whenever a man remains fairly "sober" while his companions get "knocked out" i.e. drunk and helpless we hear the saying
"He wet the Whistle like Captain Bailey." or
"He was the last to blow the whistle like Captain Bailey"//
