  1. This was formerly a castle of the O’Hurleys. Local tradition has it that the last O’Hurley to inhabit this stronghold, used to hang the Gaels from the ramparts of the castle. The old people say that he met with a terrible death. The O’Hurleys owned all the Knocklong district.
