  1. The following old song has been sung in this district for more than one hundred years. At least the oldest men in the district have heard it in their childhood days.
    Certain sections of the farming community in this parish do not favour the song, and they accept it as an insult.
    The Galbally Farmer
    I
    One evening of late as I happened to stray,
    To the County Tipperary I soon took my way,
    To dig the potatoes and work by the day
    On hire with a Galbally Farmer.
    II
    I asked him how far we were bound for to go,
    The night it was dark and the north wind did blow,
    I was hungry and tired and my spirits were low,
    And I had neither whiskey nor cordial.
