    In one of these tales I have referred to a man called Dan M- who was noted for the great interest he always had in the doings of his neighbours. His tongue like that of the Woman of Three Cows wagged a bit more than charity allowed, a fact which was sometimes resented by the neighbours, all of whom were not as kindly disposed as the smith, Jim Buckley.
    One of these neighbours, a farmer called Pat F-, was one night coming home from town. He was a dour, silent, grim character and had lately heard that the famous Dan was 'tattling' as to the late hours he kept, the pubs he visited etc. etc.
    The night was very cold, a northeast wind blew, a slight coating of snow covered the ground & rustled in the frozen grass by the side of the road.
    Coming near the tale bearer's house Pat's mind reverted to Dan & his stories. Dan's house & front door happened to face the bitter cold northeaster & just when Pat came in front of the house, he marched over in his solemn stately way & gave a resounding thump on the door with his stick.
