  1. (no title) (continued)

There lived in these parts a gay and reckless young fellow.

    (continued from previous page)
to offend the Prince of darkness and risk his anger he added "But the devil isn't a bad fellow either". At last, after many escapes form the slippery rocks and rushing water he lands safely on his own side. Once on the bank he looked back, jumped three times and shouted "Yerra God is the man and to h. with the devil.

  2. The Landlords of this place, from
Mary Canty, got from Mr. Pat Canty,
    Skagh, Croom 21.9.'38
The landlords of our part of Croom were the Earls of Dunraven, whose seat is in Adare. They were a proud race of people and ground their tenants to the dust. Once they had an agent called Captain Ball. He came into my cousins, Conway's house and saw a few pigs and chickens around. He said "Ye have pigs and chickens and everything here to make money. I must raise the rent".
When he came around again the rent was much higher though the people had to almost starve themselves to pay the first rent.
