Skagh, Croom 21.9.'38The landlords of our part of Croom were the Earls of Dunraven, whose seat is in Adare. They were a proud race of people and ground their tenants to the dust. Once they had an agent called Captain Ball. He came into my cousins, Conway's house and saw a few pigs and chickens around. He said "Ye have pigs and chickens and everything here to make money. I must raise the rent". When he came around again the rent was much higher though the people had to almost starve themselves to pay the first rent.- Collector
