    Glad - óinseach = a thorough madcap, a spirited carefree girl of 11 to 14 years of age. (Cromadh)
    Stró thus: he put the Stro on me = chuir sé ar bhothar m'aimhleasa mé (Cromadh)

    Hurra - muc is used here to "drive" pigs (Cromadh)
    Paoi, paoi, paoi (Cromadh) and Púí, Púí, Púí (Tiob. Ár.) the general invitation to cows to "come hether".

    Fuarnamh = the condition of numbness resulting from excessive cold, the painfully anaemic condition of fingers in one who suffers from "thin blood" or very bad circulation, a not unusual feature in undernourished children. Word in very general use here. (Cromadh)

    Lud = ludh, a rag, thus: the poor child hadn't a Ludh on him.

    Manntog = duine gan fiacal 'na bhéal (Cromadh)
    Mo léir is mo bhrón! (Cromadh) agus Mo léir is mo léan
    Cliab, Clabaire, agus Clabachán. (Cromadh is Tiob. Ár)

    Níl spleannc agat = you havn't a 'stem' of sense (Bean Mh Ui Thuathail)
