  1. Midsummer Day.
    Midsummer day falls on 24th June, it marks the middle of summer. It follows the longest day of the year which is the 21st June.
    It is the feast of St. John the Baptist, the evening before is called St. John's eve.
    It was customary to light bone fires in Ireland long ago. No notice is taken of midsummer day in Adare.
