  1. "Local Superstitions".
    1. It is considered unlucky to walk under a ladder.
    2. Unlucky - to carry a sally rod over your shoulder - you will never grown another inch.
    3. If hawthorn in bloom it brought into a house, disease is supposed to follow, usually scarlatina.
    4. Magpies when seen -
    "One for sorrow.
    Two for joy.
    Three for a wedding.
    Four for a boy.
    Five for silver,
    Six for gold,
    Seven for a secret that never
    will be told".
    5. If you enter a house and churning is in progress, you must take your turn at the churning, else you may take the butter away.
