  1. The old School of Shountrade, Adare.
    The old school of Shountrade stood in the townland of Shountrade in the parish of Adare midway between Adare and Kildimo. The word Shountrade means old street.
    There was a row of houses going form Bosheen stream to Glosha Cross. This gave the name to Shountrade school. During the night of the big wind 1839 the row of houses and the school were knocked and they were never rebuilt.
    The people who lived in the houses emigrated to America in an old ship called "Jane Black". It took
