  1. The Croppies.
    In the insurrection of ninety eight, there was a body of men fighting for Ireland. They were called the Croppies.
    There was a song composed, making fun of them. One day there was a fair held in Adare. There was a man singing all day "Croppie lie down".
    There was a man who came up two miles from Clorane to Adare. He went into a shop to buy a spade. He got the spade, when he was leaving he said "this spade is going to do a good days work for Ireland", but the man took no notice of him.
