A man by the name of Roger Kett who lived in Ballinacarriga about the year 1870 had an acre of hay cut in the rain for three weeks and could not save it owing to the bad weather.
He was continually praying for a clear up but without success the weather growing worse. The priest asked the people to say a prayer for fine weather.
So on a certain Sunday when he came from mass he was accosted by a neighbour who said "begor" Roger the weather will clear up at last after these prayers "yerra wisha whist God nor man could not clear it while the wind is from the south". For I have the two knees of my trousers woren from praying for a clear up.
