  1. Long ago Sarsfield came to Askeaton bridge around the year 1690. He came with an army of men.
    Cromwell went through Askeaton long ago on his way to Kilkenny. It was around the year 1668. he made his camp near Foynes.
    Hugh O'Neill and Hugh O'Donnell passed west of Askeaton on his march to Kinsale. O'Neill passed first, and about two or three days after more troops passed.
    During the Wilkamite campaign Sarsfield defended the bridge in Askeaton.
