  1. Long ago before the National School was built in Askeaton, there was an old school in Askeaton. It was built beside the spot where the Library now stands. The teacher was an old woman named Mrs Dillon who was living in the school. The pupils had to pay a small fee yearly and if heating was required they pupils brought what was wanting. This was in the year 1857.
