  1. Downey's Old fort, A funny story
    In Kiddlestown district the remains of an old fort can be seen on the top of a hill, surrounded by furze, which is called Downeys Old fort. It was said, that fairies visited it each night, and frightened the people who dwelt there namely the Downeys. One night they visited their home and were vexed for as there was no cup of water on the table. The went to the bedroom door and called the woman of the house, and told her to go to the well, and bring them two buckets of water. She did so, and they never went to bed afterwards without leaving a cup of water on the table for the fairies to drink. The people living in the neighbourhood did like wise.
