  1. Sometimes horses are given names such as Tom, Bill, etc.. A horse is generally kept in a house at night in the winter but hardly ever in the summer. The house in which horses are kept is called a stable. The stable is a large house if it is needed for more than four or five horses. Along one side of the house about 2 1/2 feet above the ground is what is called a manger. The manger is generally used for such things as oats, carrots, and mangolds. The manger is again situated at
